Customer Reviews

Good Lightweight Bag. Keeps You Warm to Mid-30's FI am on Teton Sports Sleeping Bag #5. Have purchased 2 of the Tracker series (both +5F), 1 of the Trailhead series (+20F) and 2 of the Altos Series (0F), an Altos-S (synthetic fill) and an Altos down fill. The Teton Sports bags are an outstanding value that can't be beat. Ours Tracker bags are rated to +5F and are comfortable down to freezing (+32F/0C) in just our underwear. Add fleece pants and a fleece top and socks and they are good to mid-low 20's. The Trailhead bag is rated +20F and is comfortable into the high 30's/low 40's. Once the temps got down into the low 30's I was cold. We have logged extensive miles in the Wyoming Winds at elevations to 12,000 ft. ASL with these bags and have suffered no rips, tears or zipper failures. I initially bought the Trailhead series bag to save weight. The +20F bag weighs in at just 2.4 lbs. Anybody that backpacks in the mountains at altitude knows that pounds are precious. There are without a doubt better bags available but at a price point literally $100-$150 above this bag. I am on a budget and have to watch my dollars so I bought this bag and was not disappointed. If you are a casual summertime backpacker or camper I highly recommend the product. 4Awesome buy for this priceAwesome bag in the offered price.I ordered bag 3 days before my bagpacking trip and didn t have time to exchange for big version So I just returned it. I m 5 8.5 inches high. So I thought i could fit in a scout version which is 75 . But it was too tight as you can see in pictures. -I couldn t test it in outside weather. But it was really warm. seemed warm enough to take care of 40 degrees weather. -Its light weight as advertised. You can guess the hight of the packed sack from picture as I placed a water bottle along with it. Felt a bit tough to me to put back in the sack. But maybe I m not good at folding. has a nice full zipper at right side as you can see in a picture All in all a good bag if you can carry a 3-4 pound of extra stuff in your hiking pack. If you want lighter for same weather, Be prepared to shed a lot more money. I m 5 8 160pound with broad shoulders. Check the photos how scout version fits me. 5Amazingly Compact and Affordable Bag for 3-season Intermediate-level Camping and BackpackingWe regularly camp and backpack in Southern California and beyond and I love this bag. I'm female and a cold sleeper (those two things often go together) and I'm very comfortable in this bag down to about 40 degrees. I sleep with a Thermarest pad underneath. I did one ~35 degree night and started to feel a little chilly. I wouldn't carry it if I expected below freezing temperatures. On the flip side, it's great in the summer. I don't overheat. You can unzip it to cool off. The inside is nice and comfy. It's shockingly compact compared to other bags with similar ratings (nearly half the size of an expensive 10F bag I have) and very light at 3.5 pounds. Great for entry and mid-level backpacking. The material is comfortable and the price is incredible. If you're doing the PCT you'd want something more, but for the average camper and backpacker this is a GREAT three season bag. Even ultra lite hikers might be impressed. I certainly was. 5If money is no object, you can find better. If you are backpacking on a budget, you can't find much better than this.I purchased 2 of these for my daughter and I to take on a 4 day backpacking trip through Rocky Mountain National Park. Spent 3 nights on the trail where the temps dropped to the low 40s. Granted, the temps were well above the survivability rating for the bags, but I could easily see pushing lower temps when dressed property. They packed up nicely and were noticeably light weight. They are not the warmest or lightest on the market, but for the budget backpacker, they were exactly what I was looking for. 5Great value bag, if you fit in itI own 3 of these, 2 of the regular size and 1 of the "scout" size (Teton actually calls these "short", and they're not even listed on their website). I'm specifically reviewing the scout version. It's noticeably smaller and lighter than the regular version. The stuff sack is a bit thicker and more rugged/tougher than the bigger version, but I purchased the 2 bigger sized bags a year or so ago so it's possible that's what they're using for all the bags now.The box says it's 6'3" long. I'm 5'9", 150 pounds and fit in it really well. Note that when I say that, it's a mummy bag, and a short version at that. It is NOT roomy. It is not wide. It's a backpacking mummy bag, so don't get it to be comfortable. It goes a couple inches past my head if my feet are all the way pushed down into the foot box. Again, I'm 5'9" 150 and I'm pushing the limits for the scout version.I use these bags for backpacking, and sleep with them in a hammock and slept in 50 degrees no underquilt and into the 40s with an underquilt and have been fine.At under 2.5 pounds, under $50, for a +20 bag, you would be very hard pressed to find a better value if you fit in it. 5Stuff sack not compression/great customer serviceIn the description it says it comes with a compression sack but that is a half truth. It comes with a stuff sack and there is a difference. So you want to make this more compact better buy a proper compression bag ( an additional $15-20) as the supplied bag does nothing.Quote:TETON Sports provides a durable compression sack for stuffing your sleeping bag into; Start at the bottom and stuff the bag in; TIGHTEN THE HEAVY-DUTY STRAPS FOR ULTIMATE COMPRESSIBILITY;There are NO straps on the bag supplied.Update: I contacted Teton and they responded within 24 hours with a resolution and a promise to correct the description. I believe that is great customer service and shows a company that is trustworthy who will do the right thing. Upgraded from 3 to 4 stars for the bag and 5 stars for the company. 4On par with other Teton Sports productsI just used this bag for the first time on a camping trip in New Hampshire. Overall I'm pretty happy. I did some shopping at REI and just wasn't happy with what I'd have to pay for a decent sleeping bag so I decided to give this one a try. If I had to compare it to one of the bags I looked at at REI I'd say its similar to the Mountain Hardware Lamina.Size: This bag is plenty big/comfortable. I'm 6'1" 200lbs and had no problem. It packs down to a pretty small size using the included stuff sack--small enough to fit in the lower sleeping bag compartment of my Teton Sports Explorer 4000 backpack ( [...] ).Construction: on par with the rest of Teton Sports other gear. For those who don't own anything from this brand, Teton is all about good quality for a good price. It may not be the fanciest, or absolutely top of the line, but its definitely quality stuff. THE INSIDE MATERIAL OF THIS BAG IS VERY COMFORTABLE. I hate that slick sleeping bag material. Luckily, this bag has a softer more sheet like material on the inside.Temperature rating: WORD OF CAUTION...per Teton's website, their temperature rating is a survivability rating rather than a comfort rating ( [...] ). For a comfort rating they say you should add 20 degrees. So, this bag may be more like a 40 deg bag when compared to bags standardized to the EN 13537 rating system ( [...] ). Knowing this, I went ahead and purchased a Teton Sports bag liner ( [...] ) which they say should add 10 degrees (my goal was to have a 20-30 deg bag). On my first and only trip so far with this bag the lows were in the high 40's and I slept fine, I do tend to be a hot sleeper though. We'll have to see how it does in colder weather. Conclusion: Overall, I'm pretty happy with this purchase. I also bought a storage bag for it ( [...] )--since sleeping bags should be stored uncompressed or hanging. Even with the liner and the cotton storage bag I still came out spending about 1/2 of what I would have at REI for a 20 deg bag. I'll update the review after I've had chance to use it more often/in colder weather. Hope you find the review helpful! 4Warm for me, not my girlfriend. Overall: good!5 stars from me. I really like this bag. I used it for the first time the night before I wrote this on a backpacking trip. We went to bed at 6:30PM and the temp. was 40 F. We woke up and ate breakfast at 6:00AM and it was 32 F. I am not sure the lowest temp. we slept through, but it was below freezing for sure. I was warm all night, though I was wearing a medium jacket, pajama pants over my jeans, but only one pair of socks. My girlfriend gave it 3.5 stars because she was wearing more clothes than I and was freezing all night. Both of us are about 140LBS, average height and we fit well in the bag. There is plenty of room for more. The dog was stepping all over the bags with her huge claws all night and there are no signs of tears of rips. The inside material is soft and comfy. Getting this bag into the sack is super easy; just stuff it into the sack, no rolling! My only complaint is that the zipper frequently gets caught while zipping it up when you're inside. 4I will say that I was using a good sleeping mat and a two man Kelty tent I ...So I just got home from a hiking trip with my Boy Scout Crew that I m trying for Philmont. I chose this bag because the coldest it should get on our trek is upper 30s to low 40s. This weekend, it was a different story. I knew the low was supposed to get down in the 20s but I wanted to really see how this bag worked. Turns out, it was 15 degrees F when I woke up at 0630. I will say the bag is not designed to give you a toasty sleep at 20 degrees but it is the survival rating. I will say that I was using a good sleeping mat and a two man Kelty tent I shared with my son. I also was wearing a wool beanie and long handles. I went to bed and was very comfortable. I woke up a couple of times and my feet were cold but not bad. The wind picked up and was blowing on my side and I could tell my shoulder was a little cool but not to the point were I couldn t sleep.I carried this bag in the Teton sport 4000 and it fit perfectly in the sleeping bag compartment with the inflatable mat. This bag is not designed to be used below 20 degrees or really below mid 30s but it out preformed my expectations by far. I m very happy with this purchase.Only negative is that I have broad shoulders 5 10 , 210, and the bag didn t have a lot of room but it s a mummy bag so that s to be expected. 5Compresses well if you have a compression sackVery comfortable and super light weight. I was a little skeptical that I would stay warm at night because it seemed a little thin, but I ended up unzipping about 18" of the bag at night. The inside material is beautifully comfortable to the skin.It comes in a stuff sack, and is a decent size on it's own.I bought a Small sized Nelson-Rigg Compression sack, and I recommend that as well for this bag. It gets this back down to the size of a cantaloupe. 5
