Customer Reviews

Toasty Warm and Dressy! It was 21 degrees with a wind chill of about 6 when I wore this for the first time. Everything this coat covered with that fur collar up to protect my neck stayed toasty warm. The jacket comes to my waist covering my belly just above the belt to my jeans, so it's a little shorter than most jackets today, but the sleeves are perfect and I feel like I have room to stretch a little. Those front flap pockets are not generous but adequate enough for one pocket to hold my winter Duluth brand workgloves and the slash pockets are just big enough to cram my hands closed into a fist inside. So the pockets seem kinda small and tight but leather does loosen up over time so I remain hopeful. I did notice that my hands stayed toasty warm inside those pockets and that's a plus! The zipper works efficiently so far and that flap behind the zipper is a nice touch. Another thing I noticed about this coat is the leather don't stink. Most new leather items have this funky odor but this coat does not. I remember our navigator on my ship had a coat like this one back in the day and I was highly covetous of his then. Mine is close enough in appearance to his to satisfy me. I like it. It's much heavier than my down coat that is just as warm, but it looks much nicer. If you need a warm coat this is the ticket. Match it with a fur felt Stetson and the cold won't bother you.5The collar is a polybut warm not lambs wool line the original but I'm not disappointed due to the value offeredAlthough I rated a G-1 as a Marine Crew Chief in CH-46 A's < 50 years ago '67, each time I ordered one it mysteriously failed to materialize due to REMFS! When I saw this jacket I jumped on the deal although Wal*Mart has them for less! The size chart is spot on and delivery was quick and one day earlier than expected. I am thrilled with this Bucket List Naval G-1 flight Jacket. The collar is permanently attached and the goat skin isn't as soft as Lambskin but that is okay by me. The collar is a polybut warm not lambs wool line the original but I'm not disappointed due to the value offered. 5-Stars from me! *****5Is this truly leather? I am in doubtThe jacket comes folded u into a teeny teeny box. It is just now after 3 weeks unwrinkling. Honestly, we both thought it was plastic. I bought XXL tall for my hubby who wears xl clothes. This jacket fits him and is not long looking nor is it too roomy. We decided to keep it and will see how it wears but if it actually is leather, its not soft or smooth and has no leather smell whatsoever. I was tempted to snip underneath somewhere to check, but felt if I did then I couldn't return it. So I am so surprised to see reviews of high quality leather. Anyhow, it looks good on him, just looks really cheap.3A really nice 'flight jacket' style leather jacket. Well made and warm!Actually I'm very happy with the purchase!I did order the jacket 2 XL-tall and the fit is fine, just a bit large but I'm glad for that should I want to wear a sweater under it, but so far that hasn't been necessary as it is very warm even with the current (12/2016) cold spell in our area and temps down in the +10 degree range in the mornings. I love the brown color and lining finish. There are the two large front pockets as in the product photos with smaller hand pockets behind the large pockets and one deep inside pocket, on the left side and built into the leather and before the liner.OK, so I do have one gripe, again just because it's new, the button holes on the pockets are really stiff and tight getting the buttons opened or closed on the two front pockets. The very soft "fur" collar is NOT removable but has a way to close it around you neck with a flap of leather and smaller buttons, and Included are a few new buttons of both sizes. The zipper is a YKK antiqued looking metal, well made and works fine. There is a sewn flap on the right side that protects the clothes from being zipped up when closing the jacket around your stomach area. I read a few complaints about the leather being somewhat stiff. Since it is still new it is just a bit but not very stiff as you might think unable to move with it on. When I'm wearing it I notice it most when driving my pickup truck and the back and the collar gets pushed up. Overall the jacket is not stiff to the point of being a problem at all, and I don't think it will be long to break in. Also, mentioned in other reviews, conditioners will help as this is not my first leather jacket.Again, overall I am very happy with this purchase. I think the jacket is very well made and a bargain considering all the three to five hundred dollar leather jackets out there.5New Favorite Clothing Item I OwnThe package arrived, and I was like a kid frantically opening his X-mas gift. There jacket came with a coat hanger, and was wrapped externally and internally. There was material inside to keep the jacket from wrinkling (but to be honest, a jacket like this only gets more character from wrinkles). There was little bits of paper wrapped around each button to keep them from scratching, letting you know just how much care was put into this product. The collar is super-soft, and very luxurious. I've been riding with this jacket for at least a month now, in winter rain, hail, and at 4AM near freezing when it's very windy. This jacket is amazing at keeping me warm, but when it's really cold you'll need a hoodie underneath (or two shirts, if you're feeling lucky).Sturdy, rugged, beautiful, it's definitely got that "Cafe Racer" vintage look to it, without being worn-to-heck or having that "funky-grandma's-attic smell" to it. The front pockets (all four of them - side-openings and top-opening) have this suede-like material (possibly the soft side of the leather) that make this feel warm and very nice in winter. The leather also boasts a nice smell to it. The zipper is super-sturdy, and I'd trust it to last longer than any other zipper I've used so far. While at first it was too small, over time the leather does adjust to the wearer. At first it'll be a bit right so moving in this jacket (like how I ride my scooter) will be a bit cumbersome while the leather is new and unused, but given time it'll loosen up just fine. Except the shoulder - it's way too tight there. It presses my between my back and the nape of my neck in a way that feels way too forceful, and causes me headaches when wearing for extended periods of time. But don't let that last little bit of criticism stop you from ordering this thing. No sir. It's the nicest, finest piece of apparel I've ever owned, and my second-favorite clothes item I've ever owned (only behind a gothic-style black trenchcoat I used to own when I was a teenager - which I only like more due to fond memories, aka nostalgia goggles).Whether a gift to a family member, boyfriend, boss or best friend, or just a gift for yourself, this will be one clothes item they'll treasure (and probably use/show off any chance they get). If the area around the shoulders and neck were loosened up a bit, this would be a flawless item.4I'm very pleased with this jacketI'm very pleased with this jacket. It is a quality garment. The leather is quite nice and I believe it will be even nicer as I wear it. As seen in the description photo the jacket has an excellent lining with the American Flag. The whole jacket has the heaviness that would be expected in a military style leather jacket. I feel comfortable in recommending this jacket. I've had it only a short time and have worn it less than a dozen times so far. I find it to be quite warm enough also.5Overall a nice jacket. While I'm giving this jacket 5 stars there are a few things to be aware of.First, it is cut very different from my Cooper G-1, which was a perfect match for the Navy issued G-1 I had in the service in the 60's. The original G-1 was cut straight and slim. This one has a full cut like a civilian jacket. I'm not "straight and slim" any longer so this version fits me quite nicely. The original G-1 had an unisulated nylon lining. This version has an insulated cotton (?) lining and is very warm. Warm enough that it needs to be pretty chilly before it won't be uncomfortably warm to wear. Like below 50 degrees. The overall weight of this jacket is slightly heavier than the original G-1's, but the leather doesn't feel as thick or as sturdy. The original G-1 did NOT have side entry pockets. Neither does my Cooper. The pockets on this verion are side entry and the external pocket sise IS correct. That does place the entries pretty far around the sides. Changing the patch pockets to be smaller so the side entries could be more towards the front would make them obviously too small. The orignal G-1 and Cooper have a snap closure inside map pocket on the left. The pocket measures about 7-1/4 high and is deep enough and sturdy enough to hold a .45 auto pistol. This version's map pocket is only 6-1/2 insches high and not nearly deep enough or sturdy enough for something like a full size .45 auto.My Cooper is a 46R which translates to an XL I believe. I ordered this one in an L. It fit my 5'7" 210 lb self perfectly. This jacket is not goatskin and it's too soon to tell how well it will hold up compared to the original G-1's. On the other hand I paid over $300 for my Cooper 15 years ago and this version cost me a fraction of that. The fur collar is synthetic instead of mouton like the original and lighter weight.Bottom line is that this jacket is not historically accurate if that's important to you. But it is comfortable, warm, looks good and someone really has to know from owning an original government issue G-1 from the day that this version isn't historically accurate.5Quality and well made for $99I was expecting the leather to be thin like the Landing Leather G-1 Distressed Leather Jacket, and was pleasantly surprised that the leather is thicker and mid-heavy. The jacket is not stiff, and was shipped in a white Amazon plastic packing bag instead of a box, there is no clothe hanger as in other reviews. It look more visually appealing than on the Amazon pictures. The stitches on both leather and inner lining are good. The unremovable collar faux fur is stitched on one side with the other side leather, and a leather strap to hold the collar together when needed to warm your neck. Faint smell of leather can be detected, it fit nicely for my size M, dark brown in colour, sometimes appearing more like a deep dark maroon brown which is nice. The Jacket insulation filling keep the wearer very warm, and is also very comfortable. Ample baggy space for the arms and unrestricted movement. Outside pockets to warm your hands are small and have to clench your fist to fit in, it feel nice and warm. The inside liner pocket can hold a couple of passports with liner that feel smooth and warm. On the whole, the G-1 leather jacket is not an exact military specs, but look luxurious, very well made, and of high quality despite its affordable pricing. This will be my main coat to take onboard flight, travel and cold weather use. A couple of leather conditioning with lanolin, would help softening and hopefully reduced the puffy look when wearing it. The only complaint I have is what may assumed to be a small flaw on the top right arm leather (see 2nd photo) where a spot of leather seems thinner or some kind of slash cut below. Nevertheless, I shouldn t be complaining, bought it at US$99.5Top QualityArrived a day late but that had nothing to do with seller. The jacket came tightly packed, and in good condition . When ordering I followed their measurement chart. Ordered exactly as chart said and it fit perfect, looks great, feels great. The Craftsmanship is great so don't let were it's made stop you from ordering it. Some reviews said the buttons were loose, they are sewed that way because when you pass the button thru the hole in the pockets or thru the collar closure you need that slack in the buttons or you would never get them thru the holes. This jacket is made as good as my original. That got stolen. 25 years ago. Like I said don't let were it's assembled stop you from buying this beautiful, quality made jacket. And yes this is leather. Just as they advertise. Thanks guys for this great jacket.5really like this a lotI was hesitant seeing the price, but very happy I went ahead and purchased this. Well made, heavier than expected for what it cost. The sizing worked for me, another reason I was hesitant, the large was a large, fits great. The hand pockets under the button pockets are a little hard for me to reach, and a little tight or small (have large, not huge, hands) but I can use them. Only thing I wish changed is the pockets but from what I understand the authentic coats don't even have hand warmers under the pockets, so am pretty happy with what I got.Anyhow wanted a casual live in / wear everywhere kind of a coat for spring and fall type days. This will be great for that. Gettin' towards a bit old to pull off wearing a leather (many can, me I wouldn't attempt it, way too much like work) this is a great all around coat. After checking it out for a few days, liked it enough to also get their Air Force A-2 version too (this was in brown, the A2 in black). They were both on sale, about 100 bucks but I would've been happy with them at the regular price too.Anyway very very happy with this purchase, enough to buy another of these in the A-2 style.5
